Instructor Courses

UFAS instructor courses are designed for experienced practitioners who want to progress into teaching, training and assessing others in their area of expertise. Courses are for eligible candidates who want to become instructors in first aid, cardiac response and other specialist training areas.

First Aid and Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Instructor Courses

Knowing how to perform a skill is one thing. Knowing how to teach it effectively is another.

UFAS provides instructor training for experienced first aid and cardiac response practitioners who are ready to take the next step, develop the skills needed to teach, demonstrate, assess and support learners to the required standard.

As a PHECC Approved Training Institution, UFAS delivers approved instructor training and recertification programmes for eligible candidates.

First Aid Response (FAR) Instructor Training

Progress from First Aid Responder to First Aid Response Instructor.

The FAR Instructor pathway develops the instructional and assessment skills needed to deliver First Aid Response training effectively.

Becoming an instructor involves more than knowing the course content. Instructors need to be able to explain concepts clearly, demonstrate practical skills correctly, assess learner performance and provide effective feedback.

Candidates must meet the relevant PHECC entry requirements and successfully complete the required instructor development, supervised teaching and assessment process.

€500 per person

Cardiac First Response (CFR) Instructor Training

Develop the skills needed to teach and assess Cardiac First Response.

CFR Instructor training prepares eligible candidates to teach and assess practical cardiac response skills, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

UFAS delivers CFR Instructor training in accordance with the requirements of the relevant PHECC programme.

Cardiac First Response Advanced (CFR-A) Instructor Training

For suitably qualified candidates who want to progress to teaching Cardiac First Response Advanced.

CFR-A Instructor training develops the instructional, practical and assessment skills required to train and assess learners at Advanced level.

UFAS is approved to deliver Cardiac First Response Advanced training, instructor training and recertification.

Irish Heart Foundation Heartsaver Instructor Training

Progress your CPR and AED skills to instructor level and learn how to teach them effectively.

The Irish Heart Foundation (IHF) Heartsaver Instructor pathway is designed for eligible candidates who want to deliver Heartsaver CPR and AED training.

Instructor training goes beyond being able to perform CPR correctly. Instructors must also be able to demonstrate skills clearly, explain techniques, assess learner performance and provide effective feedback.

UFAS delivers Irish Heart Foundation instructor training through its affiliated IHF training site, subject to the relevant entry requirements and IHF instructor pathway.

€500 per person

Irish Heart Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Training

For healthcare professionals and other suitably qualified candidates who want to progress from providing Basic Life Support to teaching it.

The Irish Heart Foundation Basic Life Support Instructor pathway develops the skills required to teach and assess BLS effectively, combining strong practical resuscitation skills with the ability to instruct, assess, remediate and support learners.

Eligible BLS instructors may progress to teaching Irish Heart Foundation/American Heart Association BLS Provider and HeartCode BLS courses, as well as Heartsaver courses, subject to the relevant IHF requirements.

The instructor pathway includes the instructor course, followed by practical teaching experience and monitoring before final instructor sign-off.

UFAS delivers Irish Heart Foundation BLS instructor training through its affiliated IHF training site.

€500 per person

Instructor Recertification

Instructor certification must be maintained in line with the requirements of the relevant awarding or training body.

UFAS provides recertification for eligible instructors who need to renew their certification and demonstrate that their knowledge, practical skills and instructional ability continue to meet the required standard.

Requirements vary by instructor qualification, so check the relevant course information or contact UFAS to discuss your current certification.

Knowing the material is essential, but effective instructors also need to know how to explain it clearly, demonstrate it accurately, identify when a learner is struggling and provide the support needed to improve.
