Patient Moving & Handling Course
Objective
This training program aims to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to safely and effectively move and handle patients in accordance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007.
Prerequisites
No prior qualifications are needed to enroll in this course. However, participants should have the physical capability to perform a range of patient moving and handling techniques.

This course is designed for individuals who wish to learn safe and efficient techniques for moving and handling patients in various healthcare settings.

1. Understanding the Legal Framework for Manual Handling
2. Study of the Musculoskeletal System
3. Biomechanics and Causes of Injury
4. Enhancing Flexibility
5. Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
6. Fundamental Principles of Lifting
7. Log Rolling
8. Assisting Patients to Sit Up in Bed
9. Turning Patients in Bed Using Sliding Sheets
10. Moving Patients Up the Bed Using Sliding Sheets
11. Assisting Patients to the Edge of a Bed
12. Helping Patients to Stand
13. Transferring Patients from Bed to Chair
14. Managing Falling Patients
15. Proper Usage of Hoists and Slings
Course Delivery
The course will be conducted by an instructor who will utilize a PowerPoint presentation to guide participants through the material. The course will be delivered in English.
Duration and Evaluation
The course has a duration of 4 hours. Students will be assessed on their proficiency in patient moving and handling techniques. They must demonstrate competence in all movements and pass a written examination.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate that is valid for 2 years.
Renewal
To maintain qualification beyond the initial two-year certification period, individuals will need to retake the course. Refresher training is not required for those with a valid certificate.
