About the First Aid Response (FAR) Course
The First Aid Response (FAR) course is a PHECC-certified first aid responder course designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and care for people with life-threatening injuries until professional healthcare practitioners arrive. This first aid response course is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including those who require certified first aid training for their job, such as non-healthcare personnel, sports coaches, teachers, and parents.
Target Audience
This first aid response course does not have any specific prerequisites. However, participants should be physically capable of performing CPR and other practical skills, such as relieving choking, placing someone in the recovery position, and applying bandages to injured limbs.
Course Requirements
The First Aid Response (FAR) course is a nationally recognised training standard established by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) of Ireland. This course enhances and replaces the previous Occupational First Aid qualification and follows a standardized syllabus. The FAR course also incorporates the comprehensive Cardiac First Response Community standard.

Delivery Method
This FAR course is delivered by a qualified instructor using practical demonstrations, presentations, and guided learning materials. Training focuses heavily on hands-on practice to ensure participants can confidently apply first aid response skills in real emergency situations.
Duration and Assessment
The First Aid Response (FAR) course requires a minimum of 18 hours of training. Participants may attend six-hour sessions on different days or complete the course over consecutive days, depending on scheduling needs.
Certification
Upon successful completion of this PHECC First Aid Response course, participants receive a dual certificate from the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) and UFAS. This certification remains valid for two years.
Renewal
To maintain your First Aid Response certification, you must complete a refresher course before the two-year validity period expires. The refresher training updates and reinforces the knowledge and skills gained during the original first aid response course. A valid FAR certificate is required to attend refresher training.
Blended Learning
We are approved by PHECC to deliver this first aid response course using a blended learning format. The course can be completed over 18 hours using a 50/50 model, combining online learning with in-person practical training.
Training Locations
We deliver this First Aid Response (FAR) course at workplaces and venues Nationwide. UFAS instructors provide first aid response training in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and surrounding counties.
We can come directly to your workplace or venue to deliver on-site first aid training for groups, or you can attend one of our scheduled course locations Nationwide.
